History of the Ajax Skating Club

We had humble beginnings, originally known as the Ajax Figure Skating Club; we are now known as the Ajax Skating Club.

We were formed in the fall of 1967 when a group of interested people met at the home of Mrs. Norma Raycraft on September 20th to form an executive. Application was made for membership in the Canadian Figure Skating Association in the spring of 1968.

We had one coach back then, Mrs. Barbara Staroba. She joined the club for the 1968-69 season. She was joined on ice by our second coach Mrs. Elinor Kell.

Many years later, our coaching staff is comprised of 13 enthusiastic coaches! We have a very dynamic mix of very experienced coaches and some very new coaches.

All of our coaches are fully certified and are at NCCP Level 1 to Level 3, are Coaching Members of Skate Canada and hold a valid First Aid certificate. All coaches must be certified through the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP). Skate Canada Professional Coaches must fulfill these qualifications before being allowed to coach in a Skate Canada club or sanctioned skating school.
