Programs & Fees
The Ajax Skating Club offers Skate Canada approved instructional
and competitive programs. All programs are taught by professional
coaches certified through the National Coaching Certification Program
(NCCP).
CanSkate for Preschool
A learn to skate program geared for 3 and 4 year olds, stressing
basic movement on the ice and focusing on FUN! This half-hour program
is run with professional and amateur coaches conducting the full
half-hour. A CSA Certified hockey helmet is mandatory.
CanSkate
A learn to skate program designed for children 5 and up. Skaters
progress through a series of levels (badges) as their skills develop.
This one hour program is comprised of 5 minute on ice, 10 minute warm-up lead
by our professional coaches, then 30 minute group lesson from one of
our professional coaches, and a 5 minute skates, followed by 10 cool down supervised by our program assistants. A CSA Certified hockey helmet is mandatory.
CanSkate for Hockey/Ringette
A customized lesson on our Canskate session with a focus on balance, power, agility, speed and edurance. This program is geared to the hockey or ringette player. The structure is similar to the CanSkate program. Full equipment is optional. This program is geared to skaters who already have basic forward and backward skating skills (they must be able to skate the length of the rink using alternate strides) and are able to stop on command without the use of the boards. A CSA Certified hockey helmet is mandatory.
CanSkate for Adult/Teen
A learn to skate program to teach adults of all ages the basic
skills of skating or to improve on the old ones. The program consists
of a 10 minute warm-up followed by a 40 minute group lesson from
one of our Certified coaches. A CSA Certified Hockey helmet is mandatory for beginner skaters of any age and are to be worn until stage 5 of CanSkate has been passed.
Star Skate
Skaters completing the CanSkate Program will enter Star Skate Program
at Junior and progress to Intermediate and Senior. Qualifications
for these sessions are evaluated throughout the season. At these
levels, the sessions will comprise of a combination of Stroking,
Skating Skills, Freeskate and Dance.
Synchronized Skating
Synchronized skating, or "synchro" is a specialized discipline
of skating involving groups of twelve or more skaters performing
various group formations and maneuvers. The objective is for the
team to perform as one unit executing circles, blocks, lines, wheels
and intersections in unison to the music, while demonstrating quality
edges, power and flow.
