Program Assistants (PA’s) and associated Fees

All STARSkaters are encouraged to become Program Assistants for the younger skaters during the Learn-to-Skate sessions.  Their duties include assisting the professional coaches during lessons, leading activities in the warm-up and cool-down portion of the sessions, and helping our new skaters to get their balance on the ice. This is an excellent way for STARSkaters who are in high school to earn community service hours!

All StarSkaters who have completed a full StarSkate season will be expected to volunteer a minimum number of hours as a Program Assistant on CanSkate sessions. If a skater is unable to complete the minimum required hours or if a skater chooses not to be a Program Assistant there is an opt-out fee.

Minimum Hours/Fees for StarSkaters registered for 1-2 sessions per week:

One CanSkate Session per week for a mandatory minimum of 20 hours per skating year.  This is required to help offset subsidized Program/ Ice Fees for StarSkate.  For the 2023-24 Season, PA’s will receive a credit of 2.50 for every hour after the first mandatory 20 hours.  This credit can be used for the Pro Shop or for future skating fees.

Minimum Hours/Fees for StarSkaters registered for 3+ sessions per week:

Two CanSkate Session per week for a minimum of 40 hours per skating year.
